There are countless reasons that residents may seek counselling. Residency is known to be a very demanding time in a physician’s education and career. Residents may seek counselling to manage anxiety, mood, burnout, or fatigue. They may also seek counselling for issues that are completely unrelated to work, such as relationship difficulties, life transitions, or grief and loss for example. Residents should be aware that we are here for them, not only when life gets tough, but also when things are going well. Any goals related to wellness are goals that we want to help residents achieve.
